Regular movement is key for our health and well being.

Movement helps our lymph fluid flow, breaking up stagnation. It improves our mood and can lessen the effects of depression and anxiety. Movement allows us to experience more restful sleep, thus improving our energy level and overall vitality.

Dance.

I grew up dancing, first at a studio, and then competitively for my high school. Moving to music has always been a big part of my life. It is an avenue for self expression and a way to foster creativity. I have coached high school dance team for over 15 years. In that time, I have seen the trends change dramatically. The demand for more flexibility and bigger extensions continues to grow, often leading to joint instability and injuries that last a lifetime. I have worked through several dance injuries myself, most of which occurred from feeling pressure to achieve a certain end point, while lacking solid information about functional movement as well as body awareness about my own healthy range of motion.

I first came to yoga, needing a nourishing activity after sustaining a knee injury. Through the practice of yoga, I gained body awareness and the ability to listen to my own intuition- a skill that I had not previously honed.   A wise yoga practice can improve strength, flexibility and balance. Mentally, the practice of yoga helps us tune into the present moment and accept things the way that they are, leading to a more calm, balanced and steady state of being. Yoga helps us connect to ourselves, as well as the world around us.

Training.

I have participated in over 1000 hours of fitness education. I have studied several different styles of yoga, dance, and personal training techniques. I am an experienced teacher, having over 15 years of coaching experience and over 2000 hours of yoga and barre classroom teaching. I strive to teach in a way that is accessible for people of all ages, body types, and levels of experience. I encourage my students to turn their attention inward and connect with their own intuition. I educate my students about anatomy, functional movement + healthy range of motion, while encouraging them to explore and make individual choices.

I teach weekly public Yoga and Barre classes throughout the twin cities. See my public Class schedule here.
